U.S. Regional Scholarships

The following scholarships are for students from or connected to specific regions of the United States.

A Note About Our Scholarship Process

Most of Darden’s merit-based scholarships do not require an additional application. If admitted, students will be evaluated for available scholarships, which are competitively awarded based on a variety of metrics and considerations. Some scholarships require a supplemental application.

In addition, third-party scholarships and fellowships are independently offered and awarded by the University of Virginia Darden School Foundation (and other third-party scholarship providers). Examples of these non-University awarded scholarships can be found below.

Typically, students will learn of any scholarship offer simultaneous with the offer of admission. Please note that not all named scholarships are available each year. Many are available every other year and some with less frequency.

  • Kington Scholarship

    This scholarship was established in 2018 by Mark (MBA ’88) and Ann Kington to support students from the Appalachian Region within the states of Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee. Mark Kington is the managing director of Kington Management LP, a member of the Darden Board of Trustees and former member of the Darden Board of Visitors.

  • Dr. Gene R. Page and David H. White PhD Scholarship

    This scholarship was established in 2018 by Ruffner (MBA ’86) and Penny Page to support students who have a connection to Memphis, Tennessee and/or Birmingham, Alabama. Ruffner Page is the CEO of McWane, Inc. and has served on a variety of civic organizations in Birmingham, Alabama, where he has been a resident for over 30 years. Ruffner Page is also a member of the Board of Trustees.

  • Frederick and Margaret Kent Stow Abbott Scholarship

    This scholarship was established in 2008 by Frederick (MBA ’58) and Margaret Kent Stow to support students who are U.S. citizens and residents of the lower 48 states west of a north/south line along the eastern borders of Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana.

  • Henry Clay Hofheimer II Fellowship 

    This scholarship was established by Henry Clay Hofheimer II in 1962 to provide financial support to students who are residents of Virginia or North Carolina. Mr. Hofheimer, a Hampton Roads business and civic leader and philanthropist, graduated from the University of Virginia in 1928. He was a member of the UVA Board of Visitors and also served as president of the Darden School Sponsors, an organization of Virginia business leaders who were critical in the establishment and advancement of the school.

  • The William F. and Joyce A. Richmond Entrepreneurial Leadership Scholarship

    The William F. and Joyce A. Richmond Entrepreneurial Leadership Scholarship provides support to graduate students at Darden who exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit, strong leadership skills, and a drive for innovation. First preference is given for students who are U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents and who were previously or are currently residents of one of the following states: Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and South Carolina who exhibit the qualities highlighted above. This scholarship was established in 2001 by William F. Richmond (MBA ‘ 76). Richmond served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Greene County Bancshares, Inc. before he retired in 2005. He has served on the Board of Directors of Boys and Girls Club, Inc. and in various capacities with the United Way of Greater Kingsport, Tennessee.

  • John Patterson Mast Memorial Scholarship

    Established in September 1988 by Mrs. Louise Gilmer Mast, in honor of her late husband, to fund scholarships for students who demonstrate financial need and were either born in or are current residents of one of twenty-two southwestern Virginia Counties: Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Craig, Dickenson, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Grayson, Henry, Lee, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, Roanoke, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise and Wythe.

  • State Graduate Fellowship

    For students at the Darden School. Candidate must be a Virginian.
