The Darden School offers a variety of scholarships and fellowships to EMBA and GEMBA students. 

Scholarships

Most of Darden’s merit-based scholarships do not require an additional application. If admitted, students will be evaluated for available scholarships, which are competitively awarded based on a variety of metrics and considerations.

Scholarship decisions are based on a holistic review of the application for admission and interview. It is recommended that applicants apply for admission by the earliest deadline to be considered for the largest pool of available of Executive MBA scholarships.

Below is a list of potential scholarships for which Executive MBA (EMBA) and Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) applicants may be eligible.


  • Breakthrough Scholars

    The Breakthrough Scholars program is a competitive scholarship initiative designed to foster a new generation of diverse leadership in private equity, venture capital (VC) and other areas of asset management. 

    Through this new program, the Darden School Foundation will select an annual cohort of up to 12 Breakthrough Scholars. In its initial year, the Breakthrough Scholars program will be open to students applying to the Full-Time MBA and Executive MBA programs at the Darden School of Business.   • Batten Media Fellowship

    Full-tuition scholarship plus book and computer stipend available to a candidate engaged in a career at newspapers or in other news gathering organizations. The candidate must be a full-time editorial or media employee with at least three years of experience, possess a strong interest in creating and/or leading media organizations after receiving an MBA and be a U.S. citizen. A special application must be obtained from the Darden School Financial Aid Office and interviews will be conducted by the Director of Financial Aid and Vice President of Communications. Contact the Darden Financial Aid Office  for the special application and to schedule an interview.  

  • Batten Scholars Program: Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Technology

    Partial scholarship sponsored and administered by Darden's Batten Institute. Batten Scholars benefit from access to programs and resources including mentorship and unique networking opportunities. This pilot scholarship opportunity was recently announced for admitted Executive MBA students in the Class of 2023 who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, strong leadership skills and a drive for innovation.

  • Class of 2016 EMBA/GEMBA Scholarship

    This scholarship was established in 2016 by members of the EMBA and GEMBA Classes of 2016 to fund scholarships for executive format students at Darden.

  • Darden Philippines Scholarship Fund

    This scholarship is funded through the generosity of Darden alumni. It is awarded to a top candidate from the Philippines or the Southeast Asia region. This scholarship is offered by the Darden School Foundation.

  • Darden Indonesia Fellowship

    This fellowship is used to increase access for Indonesian students who might benefit most from the Darden experience, increase the global focus of the curriculum and elevate the quality of the student body. The fellowship will provide up to the full cost of attendance for qualified Indonesian applicants. This scholarship is offered by the Darden School Foundation.

  • Edward May Scholarship

    Established in 1984 with a bequest from W. Peyton May in memory of her father, Edward May, who graduated from the University of Virginia in 1877. The scholarship is awarded to outstanding students.

  • Frank G. Delano Scholarship

    Established in 1985, with a gift from the Delano family, to honor a farmer and businessman from the Northern Neck of Virginia who died in May 1985. The fellowship provides a grant to a Darden student or a student associated with the School’s Institute for Business in Society, a Darden Center of Excellence. It is also to be used to benefit rural communities and preference is to be given to students from the Northern Neck or from Virginia. The Francis G. Delano Fellowship Fund enables the Darden School to offer a fellowship to an outstanding MBA student.

  • Gould Incorporated Fellowship

    Established in 1982 by Gould Inc. Gould Incorporated has hired numerous Darden graduates. The fellowship is awarded to deserving students.

  • Henry E. McWane Scholarship Fund

    Established in 1982 with a gift from the Lynchburg Foundry to honor its president, Henry E. McWane. Mr. McWane was the first president of Darden’s Board of Trustees and served on the University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors. The scholarship is awarded to outstanding students. 

  • Jack Ryan Scholarship

    Established in 2005 by Jack Ryan (MBA ’81). The scholarship is awarded to MBA students who have been admitted to Darden and exhibit academic excellence.

  • John B. Pipkin II Scholarship

    Established in 2004 by Anne Hunter Pipkin Benson on behalf of her father, John B. Pipkin II (MBA ’61). Mr. Pipkin worked for Nations Bank/Bank of America and Prometheus Partners. He served Darden as both a class agent and class secretary.  Scholarships are awarded for one academic year and may be renewed for a subsequent year provided the recipient continues to meet the conditions of eligibility.

  • Tayloe Murphy Scholarship

    Established in 1987 with gifts originally contributed for the Tayloe Murphy Professor of Business Administration. The scholarship was created by friends and family of Tayloe Murphy to honor the prominent banker and legislator. No restrictions are placed on the selection process by which deserving students are awarded scholarships.

  • TEP Scholarship

    Established by the Executive Program Class of 1988 to financially support a deserving student or students in their pursuit of a Darden School MBA degree.
