DCGI - Global Academics & Network

Many Darden professors teach around the world, consult for global companies and conduct research about international business. Some of them are originally from outside the United States, have studied in other countries and collaborate with colleagues at universities worldwide. Beyond their academic expertise in international business issues, many Darden professors are sought-after thought leaders by corporations worldwide. Here are a few examples of Darden faculty members who are regularly involved in global activities as well as examples of recent faculty research. 

Faculty Profiles

Yiorgos Allayannis serves as the Associate Dean of the Global Executive MBA Program. He has taught in the First Year Finance program and elective courses in Portfolio, Valuation, and Financial Institutions and Markets. His primary research focus is on corporate risk management, exchange-rate risk, capital structure and corporate financial policies.

Ming-Jer Chen, Leslie E. Grayson Professor at the Darden School, is a leading authority in strategic management. He is recognized for his pioneering work in competitive dynamics and ambicultural management. Chen has contributed to the East-West business dialogue via keynote speeches at such symposia as the World Economic Forum’s China Business Summit (Beijing, 2000) and the US-China Executive Summit (New York, 2004). He is the conference convener for the Strategic Management Society’s Special Conference in China (2012). Prior to Darden, he founded and directed Wharton’s Global Chinese Business Initiative and served on the faculty at Columbia. In addition, he has held honorary, advisory or visiting appointments at universities in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.

Pedro Matos is an Associate Professor in Darden's Finance area. His research focuses on international corporate governance and the growing importance of institutional investors in financial markets worldwide. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal) and a Ph.D. in Finance from INSEAD (France). Prior to earning his Ph.D., he worked with the Portuguese Ministry of Finance and consulted for the World Bank.

Saras D. Sarasvathy is a member of the Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Ethics area and teaches courses in entrepreneurship and ethics in Darden’s MBA program. In addition, she teaches in doctoral programs not only at Darden, but also in Denmark, India, Croatia and South Africa. In 2007, Sarasvathy was named one of the top 18 entrepreneurship professors by Fortune Small Business magazine.

Francis E. Warnock is a member of the Global Economies and Markets (GEM) area. Warnock developed and delivers GEM's First Year core elective "Global Financial Markets" and the year-long "Markets for Human Hope" course. Warnock is an expert on international capital flows, international portfolio allocation and financial sector development. Warnock's work has been featured in Financial Times, The Economist, Barron's, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.

The Darden Art Project (DART) is a joint effort launched by Darden students, staff and faculty and is sponsored by the Darden Center for Global Initiatives.

About DART

DART is an initiative that highlights the Darden community's global experiences. We invite Darden students, alumni, faculty and staff to submit photographs of places and people in the United States and around the world. The photographs may be of landscapes, buildings and people (including Darden students, staff, faculty and alumni).

Submitted photographs will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of Darden students, staff and faculty. Selected photos will be printed, framed and hung in the student classroom building hallway and in Cafe 67.

After display in the Darden Classroom building and Café 67 for one year, the photographs are sold.  Proceeds are donated to a charity chosen by the Graduate Women in Business (GWIB), whose members manage the sale process. DART continues annually with a new set of photographs solicited, hung and sold each winter.

Submissions

Darden students, faculty, staff and alumni may submit photographs when the submission period opens for Fall 2024. 

Selection Process

The selection committee will review all photographs submitted by the submission deadline. The final photographs will be selected based on their composition, quality and ability to communicate Darden's global mission. We will notify the finalists and request additional information, in order to include a small biography of the photographer next to their photograph. The biographies will highlight each artists' experience, interest and connection to the Darden community.

Release Statement

By submitting photos, I allow the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration ("Darden") and the Center for Global Initiatives at Darden (“CGI”) to reprint and/or reuse the photo(s), which I have submitted herewith, in various media formats for an unlimited amount of uses over an unlimited time period. Use of the photograph(s) is granted at no charge to the County. Darden and CGI may also crop or otherwise enhance the images at their own discretion.

I certify that the images submitted are my original work and if copyrighted that I am the sole copyright owner. Copyright of the images remain the property of the photographer. I also attest to have consent and/or model release of anyone clearly depicted in images submitted.

I also agree to indemnify and hold harmless Darden and CGI from and against all claims, actions, proceedings, damages, losses, liabilities, and costs that may arise from or related to any infringement on any intellectual property rights or other rights of a third part.

History

DART was founded in the fall of 2008 by Chrissa Pagitsas (MBA ’09). Chrissa sought to highlight the creativity within the global Darden community by bringing artwork into our building. She wrote the business proposal for DART as her final paper for Professor Alec Horniman's class "Leadership Learning Lab" in 2008.
