The Behavioral Research at Darden (BRAD) Lab

For Participants

If you are 18 or older, you may join the BRAD Lab participant pool. To sign up for the BRAD Lab participant pool, fill out this short form. If you are a University of Virginia student, please enter your UVA email address so that we may verify your UVA student status.

Once you sign up, you may be contacted by researchers as BRAD Lab studies become available. It is up to you to participate in any study. Becoming a member of the participant pool does not in any way obligate you to participate in a study; it just means that you will be emailed when eligible studies become available.

To sign up for studies, log in to your SONA account. Then click on the "Study Sign-up" link to see the list of available studies. Click on a study name to learn more about the study and to sign up for a timeslot.

If you would like to no longer receive study invitation emails and/or delete your account, you may do so through your SONA account or please email BradAdmin@darden.virginia.edu.
Your Compensation & Rights

Compensation

Compensation depends on the type and length of the study. The majority of our studies pay $5–$45. You will always be informed of the compensation type and amount prior to the study. In some studies, your compensation will be based on your performance during the study.

Rights

All BRAD Lab studies are approved by University of Virginia’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). As a participant, you are entitled to ethical and respectful treatment. You may withdraw your participation at any time. If you have questions or concerns about your rights as a research participant, please contact the UVA IRB at +1-434-924-5999 or email irbsbshelp@virginia.edu.
Late Attendance and No-Show Policy

Late to a Study?

If you are going to be late or unable to attend a study, please contact the researchers listed on the study’s SONA page. Researchers may be able to arrange a new timeslot for you. If you give enough time for the warning, you will not be penalized for not being able to attend.

No-Show Policy

Researchers will mark you as an unexcused no-show if you do not attend a study you signed up for and you do not inform them beforehand explaining your reason. Once you have 3 unexcused no-shows on your record, your account will be automatically deactivated. You will not be able to sign up for any new studies. To reactivate your account again, you have to contact researchers of the studies that you missed. If the researchers agree to forgive your unexcused no-show, please forward their decision to BradAdmin@darden.virginia.edu in order to reactivate your account.
