Leveraging UVA and Darden's powerful local alumni networks, Darden offers a suite of educational and practical programming for students looking to tap into the world’s innovation epicenter.
Darden offers students multiple opportunities in the San Francisco Bay Area, many of them sponsored by the Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation.
Darden Connect
This multi-day, immersive program for select MBA students interested in entrepreneurship and venture capital careers offers unique connections to individuals, companies and organizations active in key venture communities across the United States. Darden Connect programs took place in 2018-19 in the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin, Texas.
Batten Technology Venture Fellowship
This 10-week summer fellowship offers Darden students an intensive, operational experience with early-stage technology ventures. Supported by the Batten Institute, this program embeds select Darden MBAs in high-potential, high-growth ventures, giving them hands-on project experience, mentorship and coaching, a rich network of connections and contacts, and the inspiration to follow an entrepreneurial path after Darden.
Batten Venture Internship Program
This program provides Darden students the opportunity to pursue summer internships with startups or venture capital (VC) firms that do not have formal MBA internship programs. Supported by the Batten Institute, students gain the experience of working for a VC firm, startup or closely held enterprise, while the companies benefit from having access to talented Darden MBA students for the summer and potential hires.
Course Offering in the Bay Area
“Marketing Technology Products” is a one-week, seminar-style elective for Executive MBA students, offered in the Bay Area. The course is taught by Professor Rajkumar Venkatesan and features guest lecturers with industry expertise in marketing and digital technology, as well as in-person company visits in San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
Tech Trek
One of the more popular job treks available to Darden students in their First Year, the annual Tech Trek brings students to the Bay Area and other tech hubs on the West Coast for a multi-day experience meeting with recruiters and business leaders in the tech industry. The trek offers students the chance to learn firsthand the internship and full-time job opportunities in the tech sector, and includes various networking events with local alumni.
