Maureen Wellen
Executive Director, Faculty Advancement
Maureen Wellen is the executive director of faculty advancement at the Darden School of Business. In this role, she works with faculty to accelerate the creation of new scholarship and be sure the faculty and School are recognized for it. As part of her duties, she has managerial responsibility for Darden Business Publishing, case writing, the School’s library, and support for faculty seminars and conferences.
Her career has focused on university and health care management in marketing, strategy and operations.
Wellen joined Darden in 2004 and has served as acting assistant dean of the Global Executive MBA, executive director of strategic initiatives, interim associate dean for administration and adjunct lecturer teaching management communications. Other initiatives she has been responsible for include redesign of the School’s website, launch of the Executive MBA and staffing a strategic review of Darden’s Executive Education business.
Her prior experience was in health care at both the University of Virginia and Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was responsible for creating the marketing function at UVA Health System and established the hospital’s positioning strategy. Before this, Wellen was vice president for planning at Martha Jefferson Hospital, where she was responsible for developing and implementing business plans for new services. Previously, she worked at Medtronic in new business development and was a consultant in New York.
Wellen holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, a master of city planning degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
