The Intelligence Initiative
The Challenge: AI’s Promise and Peril
Artificial intelligence (AI) may prove to be one of the most transformative and disruptive innovations of the 21st century. Along with revolutionary advances in robotics and other technologies, AI promises to solve some of the world’s thorniest problems, vastly improving the human condition.
And yet, AI also has the potential to worsen social inequities, deepen rifts in society and realign fundamental aspects of our economy.
Can we muster the intelligence to harness AI’s phenomenal power while also mitigating its foreseen and unforeseen risks?
Our Approach: UVA Darden’s Intelligence Initiative
Navigating this dilemma — possibly the central dilemma of our digital age — is the responsibility of every business leader, policymaker, social activist, innovator, technologist and entrepreneur.
UVA Darden’s Intelligence Initiative: Humans, Machines and the Future of Business aims to generate interdisciplinary research, foster dialogue, and support education that provides the intelligence and insights that decision-makers will need to address this important challenge.
Bringing together a diverse, multidisciplinary group of leading scholars, we have an ambitious agenda to shape the discussion about artificial intelligence and its related technologies, embracing a holistic perspective grounded in the stakeholder view of business in society.
UVA Darden’s Intelligence Initiative is a joint project of the Batten Institute and the Institute for Business in Society at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
